Part One Mise-en-scene

 SET DESIGN-

- For our set design we wanted decided that it would be easier if we split up the scenes so we can have a clear visual of what the set could be for each scene. We split our scenes into 3 sections. The first section is the prison-cell like scene, where Avery is kept inside a cell for the cell we wanted to give a eery feeling towards the audience, so we ordered 2 backdrops that look like old rusty walls from an inside of a cell. Jade also drew a reference to how we wanted the cell to look like.

MAKING THE CELL COME TO LIFE-

-The cell was drawn first by Jade as a reference to how we actually wanted the cell to come to life.  It offered a wider scope to connect with the audience as well as introducing the protagonist: Avery Dawson, as she is held in a smaller and very crammed space. We used the studio at my house to recreate the drawing, using one of the recommendations from our first group meeting, we used 3 backdrops instead of 2 so we could have a more bigger and open space for the audiences perspective. The 3 walls helped us shoot shots from different angles, an helped with the mobility of the shots as well. As well as the backdrops we used my dog's gate as a cell gate and a bench with 2 cushions with a white sheet on top of it to make a "bed".

-Our second set up was our interrogation room. It was made in the same space as the cell, we just tied the backdrops up with pins and set up a long desk and 2 metal chairs to resemble a meeting ish type of room. We chose to set it up very minimalistic  and plain. We chose to make the desk horizontal to give both the characters, Officer Garcia, which is the sheriff taking the notes of the interrogation process, and Avery Dawson herself, a long distance type of feel within the scene. (This scene takes place during one of Avery's flashbacks)

-Lastly, our final section is where Officer Garcia is taking a call while Avery is locked in her cell. The scene is set inside my Dad's office inside of my house, where the room held the very essence of a workspace. The furniture and personal additions such as family photos, books and cases to be solved, so it correlated to the story as well.  We wanted to show more about who Garcia is within the film and the law enforcement as well choosing certain props that helped with the building of the set.

PROPS-

Props are essential within our film since we use props to help enhance our story as well as create the every essence that connects with the audience and the character itself. For example, Officer Garcia is a Sheriff, so the props we decided to use for hm are a gun (plastic gun, not real), a harness where he can hold a walkie talkie on his belt as well as a rope and handcuffs where he can handle any criminals or for any officer business. For Avery, her only props are the murder pen used to kill her friend, Raven. She also has a hospital robe, but that is more of a costume addition more than a prop. For Officer Garcia's car we also have a red and blue police siren as a prop.
