First Group Meeting-
-During class today we were set into groups to discuss about our projects that we have done and progressed throughout these 3 weeks. I was put into the group with another 6 students. Our main goal was to share our stories and give supporting information back that could aid the other person with their own project. Giving feedback and more ideas to our projects.
MAIA-
-My group members included Luke, Maia, Vanessa, Isa, Mia, and Giovanna. Maia was the first one to share her story, as well as including her ideas about how she would incorporate different elements. She had most of her project done yet needed some help on how to organize her credits and the middle of her film. She had the beginning and ending but was missing the middle. Her storyline consists of a girl who is writing her own blog and the whole storyline is a narrative of her writing her blog about her day. The narrative includes her own voice as a voice over as a narrative. Maia has a clear state of where she wants to drive her story and her film, her blogs are consistent and well written, we gave her ideas to fill in her missing middle section for her film as well as giving her credit ideas she could use throughout her opening.
MIA-
-The next one to talk about their project was Mia. Mia shared her story which was heavily inspired by the film "Boo Bitch." Which holds a very coming of age film, she wanted to incorporate a dark humor sense into her film. She wants to have the film concentrated on 2 characters which are best friends. The film starts out as they are talking together and having a good time when there is a rapid scene of a car hitting one of the girls. Throughout the film it will look like the other girl is talking to her "deceased" friend. Her blogs are well structured and interactive. The one thing we told Mia about her blog is that the way she told her story made it seem like a 10 minute film instead of an opening, so we advised her to maybe change the way her story was structured to make it seem real time.
ISA-
- Isa's idea was to do a film based on a coming of age comedy genre. She had a vision to start off as a horror film (to look like one but it's not really one). She wanted the story to begin concentrating on one girl who gets home after a long day. Her personality is very clumsy and uncoordinated as it is shown throughout the way she enters the house to go up to her room, yet she notices something is off about the house. She goes downstairs to while holding a wooden spoon as her defense method (to induce some comedy) yet she finds only her best friend messing around in her kitchen. Her friend is completely opposite from the girl. She is more relaxed and attentive. We told her that she could introduce her credits as objects around the house to make it more interactive for the audience. Her blogs were well rounded and covered her whole story.
LUKE-
- Next up was Luke. Luke had a very vague idea of what he wanted to create for his film opening. He said he wanted t to be a sort of "DromCom" (Drama and Comedy) but leaning more into the comedy side. He essentially didn't know what exactly he wanted to create other than having 2 friends who are complete polar opposites and one s extroverted and the other is "Nonchalant," as he described them. He wanted hem to be having a conversation yet he didn't know the subject of their topic or how he wanted to film it. We gave him a couple ideas about what subject he could do if he wanted to lean more into comedy. We gave him ideas like, dinosaurs or food so he could have options to choose from. Hs blogs were very put together yet I think he needed to be just a little bit more organized when writing his blogs.
GIOVANNA-
- Giovanna was separated with two options towards genre of film. She had either coming of age, or suspense. She had a vague idea of what she wanted to do, so we decided to help her with her choices. She said she wanted to have something with experiments and science. So we thought it would be better if she concentrates her film on suspense since the role of experiments and scientists fit that genre pretty well. We helped her come up with a story which turned out to include some vague mystery mixed with her suspense category. I told her that maybe she could include a "Sherlock Holmes" vibe incorporated into her project since it gives the sciency and eery feeling as well as a bit of mystery. Maia also added she could use a science lab from one of her teachers which have all sorts of vials and tools she could use to achieve her specific opening. Her blogs are very organized and well put with lots of information yet she does lack the story of her genre since she did not have that figured out before the meeting.
VANESSA-
- Lastly went Vanessa. She had her story Cristal clear. Vanessa wanted to include the genre of thriller and suspense within her project. She wanted to start off with a kid (about our age, so 15-16 ish) who is walking home from school. She wanted to do something classy so she s having the kid be bullied in his school. He gets called names and kicked and pushed. Leading to the title of here film: Pushover. Afterwards the film would turn black to signify something happened. Turns out the Kid killed his bully (while she was telling this story i was still thinking this "Kid" was like 5 years old which is why I specified his age up top) (So yes, i was baffled). But after, Vanessa wants to do a "before" of what happens, like an "8 hours earlier" cut, giving to the vibe of craziness and unexpected. We gave her some ideas on how to do a transition or for another scene she could use. We gave her the idea to have the kid in class just taking notes with a normal expression, almost concentrated on his thoughts. As if thats the present, it goes to images of his bullies bullying him and while the kid is killing his bully it shows sin thee presents that he is now smiling. Sort of giving the air of maniac and craziness. She loved the idea and she said she would incorporate it in her film. Her blogs also reflected on her thinking skills, as she used lots of detail to explain her idea for the project and a well organized format within her blogs.
