Production Process Editing #1

 EDITING DAY 1

- For our film opening project i am the designated editor for our group ass i have the most experience out of the 3 of us, yet we still work together to have more than one perspective throughout the editing. To be honest I was so excited to start the editing process for our film project, as I had the exact image on my mind. Yet, always before I start to edit, I go over the storyboard to make sure the image in my head is the one we all worked together as a team. After i went over everything in my head over and over again, i started editing, putting all the pieces together in the puzzle. While editing, i realized that i needed a little more inspiration  to help me with the process.

-So some tools that i used throughout the process was watching some tutorials that helped me with the way i wanted to present the credits in the film. At first i wanted to incorporate some glitchy text but quickly after i added the effect, immediately i decided to take it off and change it as it didn't correlate as well as i thought it would, since our film is more slow paced and the glitch makes it look more rushed, it just didn't go together. So i decided to stay with a simple fade in, to give it a eeriness towards the entrance of the credit as well.

PROCESS-

- I ran into a few problems while i was editing on my first day, as the app Premier Pro takes and drains a lot of battery life. I literally went from 50 to 5 percent in a span of 10 minutes, trying to finish up a section running for my life to save the project every 5 seconds. Since i was at school at the time, i didn't bring my charger to school, so immediately when i got back home i charged my computer and sat my butt on the chair and started to edit again.

- I also ran into a few snags with lumetri color. Yet, it wasn't because i don't know how it works,  my team and i just didn't clarify how we wanted our flashbacks to look like. Now, since it is a flashback, it means it is a memory from the past, in which it would make sense to have the scene be set in black and white. As i lowered the saturation, one of our first flashbacks is where Avery is over the body covered in bloodied hands, so the fact that it was in black and white, we couldn't see the color of the blood. As i talked over with my team, i showed them both option and we decided that thee black and white is sufficient as you can already tell there is sufficient blood on the hands to infer it is blood. Along with the corpse at her side.

-Into the first day of editing i'm glad i figured out. these problems and communicated with my team so we could all decide on one decision together. As well as finding out new skills and what works and what doesn't within our chosen film genre and pace. Overall, Editing day 1 has been a good start into our production process.

Editing Softwares

 PURPOSE-

- Editing Softwares are highly important as they help with the creation of media content and easy workflow. Having raw media transformed into a brand new piece of polished material which turns out to be engaging content for the viewers or the audience. Using an editing software helps with quick cuts and the addition of new effects if we want to add them. You can also use many tools like color correction if the footage is looking a little hazy or discolored. If you want to make something black and white to represent maybe a flashback or the past, just lower the saturation! For our Portfolio project, we have 2 options for our editing software: ClipChamp or Adobe Premiere Pro.

Premiere Pro-

ClipChamp-

CHOSEN SOFTWARE-

- Both ClipChamp and Premier Pro are really good editing softwares where they provide multiple tools to ensure the video turns out how we envisioned it. Yet for our particular opening, I chose to edit using Premier Pro. I chose this software because I am really comfortable using it. Ever since 7th grade, the film class I took required Premier Pro as our editing software. So ever since then I have fallen I love with Premier Pro as my editing software, as it has abundant unlimited accessibilities and range when it comes to imagination. I also passed my certification with Premiere Pro. So I think I can say that our chosen software is quite reliable for our project!

- When it comes to editing in Premiere Pro, I am very comfortable and accustomed to most of the tools in premier pro. I don't just like premiere pro because I am used to it but because it is very efficient and very professional with the outcome of any vide project. Even if you are a beginner, premiere pro adjusts to your skills and offers a tutorial at the beginning of learning. Yet it can be very overwhelming at first because of how many told there are. However, some people might get frustrated because they don't know exactly what they are doing but only adding clips and no sort of color grading or masking. This is why ClipChamp is also a great option for people who want to begin to learn how to edit professional clips. Both of these apps offer clarity and coherence as well as continuity with the writing of your script now put on screen.

Group Meeting #2

 THEME-

- Today we had our second group meeting for our portfolio project! It was very exciting as we got partnered with different people: Lydia, Giovanna, Benjamin, Amelia, Cristina, and Eli. The meeting consisted of talking about our finished stories and production process. As well as some ideas for our CCR's.

LYDA-

- Scientist who can see 5 days in the future and sees her death with these futuristic looking glasses. The rest of the project is her trying to find out why she dies or what happens to make here die. Lydia's genre is sci-fi. They just filmed everything last week, yet they are missing a few scenes but Lydia and her teammate are filming after school today to finish those scenes.  She doesn't know what to do for her CCR but one of the girls suggested doing like an experiment type of CCR where she asks things about experiments.

GIOVANNA-

- The next one to go was Giovanna, and she was the only one who was in my past group so it was nice seeing her progress throughout her storyline. Her story consists of a scientist who works at the FBI, he is working into the murder of the woman who runs the FBI, who was his missing daughter,  who was switched with another baby in the opening. His case runs on the fact that the director of the science department was killed and he is working on who exactly killed her. Giovanna hasn't started filming yet but she is starting her production process this weekend. Her genre consist of thriller combined with mystery. For her CCR she wants to incorporate some sort of interview to be like a interview in a prison as f she is interviewing the prisoner itself asking the questions.

BENJAMIN-

- Story's genre is a thriller mystery as well, where the story is about a teenage boy who is in a car. The opening will start as if its the ending of the story. The boy is very stressed and hears the police sirens in the background as he looks down with blood on his hands. It cuts to a scene in his room that says a few hours late as he texts his mom asking where he is. As he calls his mom, a man answered asking where the keys are. Which they are under his doormat , and as the man looks underneath, he turns to the camera and looks shocked. Yet Benjamin and his team have not yet filmed but he plans on filming this week. He also doesn't know what to do for his CCR but we said he could do a small interview as well.

AMELIA-

- Next up was Amelia, with her story being a coming of age film which originally was filmed about a week ago, yet she didn't like how they ended up so she changed multiple scenes as she ended up changing her plot and her whole story. The story is about a girl who has lived in a small town here whole life, yet she doesn't know anything about the outside world. She really want to travel, but she feels like her parents are trapping here. They want her to go to college really close by instead of letting her choose her own college. Amelia has already filmed but plans on re-shooting some scenes. She also doesn't know what to do for the CCR, yet we gave her some options of maybe doing a normal video where its the director talking to the audience answering questions about the film.

Blog- Amelia's AICE Media Studies Blog

CRISTINA-

- Dj who is starting out, 17 year old teen who is name Evan.  The film starts off with a flier for an audition to open for a big DJ artist who does house music which says 18+, yet that is an obstacle since he is younger (underage). He makes a bunch of music and doesn't care about about age, so he rips out the piece that says 18+ on the paper and starts making beats to play at the audition.Cristina and her group filmed on the beach with a rotating camera but filming didn't work as it didn't look how they wanted it too, so they re-filmed it but they are still trying to find out a filmed on her partners phone. Doesn't know what to do for her CCR but Amelia recommended doing a Podcast type of video since there iis much DJ involved in her film it would go well with her CCR.

Blog- aice media

ELI-

- Eli's genre revolves around a thriller yet to be more specified she wants to concentrate on a Psychological type of thriller. Her main character is schizophrenic and is accused of murder but he saw the psychologist who killed someone who is a sort of "wolf character" yet this character is in his mind as if he is having an episode. Her team already started filming but they are still going to meet up this week too finish up some scenes to complete their film. For Elli's CCR, she has an idea that she wants to do a interview between the character and herself but she doesn't exactly have the idea too clear.

Day 2 & 3 Production Process

 PROCESS-

- Since we had our sets ready and done, we decided to divide our production days into another 2 days. Our first day was set for the scenes with my dad in it, so the interrogation and the office scene. As well as some flashbacks scenes which were recorded on day 2. On day 3 we filmed our main scene with Avery in her prison cell.

DAY 2-

- Day 2 was shot on a Friday, where Jade, Carolina and I started by filming one of our flashback scenes since it had to be shot in the daytime. I was also quite thankful that the weather was on our side and it wasn't rainy at all but the complete opposite! We included one of our props: the bloodied marker, which we used fake blood to decorate it with as well as giving Jade a makeover with the fake blood as she was going to act as the "best friend" or murders victim: Raven. After filming the murder scene we went along with filming the arrest scene, which is also another flashback. Where Carolina, playing as Avery Dawson, s being taken into a cop car while still secretly having the murder weapon in hand.

- After the flashbacks in the daylight were taken, we could finally move inside to take both the interrogation scene and the Office scene. The process of filming outside didn't take up much time yet when we had to move everything inside that's where we used most of our time. While Jade and Carolina fixed a few things with out set, I had my dad read his lines which i had sent him before the shoot. I went over with him how he should pronunciate some words since he is not the best at speaking english, yet he did really well in the end! With Jade taking behind the scene's shots while i filmed with my camera and we had both our actors, everything was going smoothly. We started shooting at around 1:00 pm and we ended around roughly 6:20 pm.

DAY 3-

- Day 3 was shot the next day on a Saturday. Yet now only Carolina and I were shooting together since Jade was unable to come, yet we did have her on face time calls throughout the shooting of Saturday's scenes so she was aware of what we were doing. Carolina came at 5:00 pm to my house and we started to film her scenes as Avery, where she is trapped and locked in her prison-like cell. Before we started filming the scenes we obviously had to get her makeup and costume ready for the shoot. So my mom helped us with the makeup since neither Carolina or I are too talented for makeup. We went with her tired, baggy eyed look. As for her hair, we added some water and some spray that kept her hair greasy looking and frizzy. After she put on her hospital gown, we went on to start our filming process.

- Throughout the filming process we had a few bumps along the way, one of them being the fact that we only had 2 backdrops, one of the walls were just white, which was the wall behind Carolina as she sat on her bed looking across to another backdrop. So when we had to film scenes where you could see her from the front, Carolina and I moved the bed towards the side backdrop wall and used that backdrop as her background for her face front view shots. One of our last scenes wee had to shoot was were we had Avery coming out of her flashback frenzy back into reality by a phone call, so it came from a close up to then zoom out and become a medium shot as she walked towards her gate and watched my Dad taking the phone call. One challenge with this is that to zoom out my camera was very stiff, so to zoom out, the lens would sort of stick to itself and cause me to have a non-smooth zoom out shot. Turns out I had to apply a little more pressure so the zoom out would turn out smoothly. Overall, our filming process went quite smoothly with a few bumps on the way but we fixed them quickly as a team!

Day 1 Production Process

 PROCESS-

-Now let's go behind the scenes! Our first day of our production process, we decided to start with our Set design. We initially had planned to use my garage as it was spacious and the perfect place for lighting and also big enough to hold our backdrops in place as well. Yet after a good 30 minutes of trying to set up in the garage, we realized that we couldn't place the backdrops the way we wanted them to be seen. We had no way of placing them on the walls since there were many objects in the way. So we decided to use my studio instead since the walls were plain and the exact size of the backdrops as well. Now for placing them on the walls my dad had an idea of just stapling the backdrops onto the wall so its more evenly spread out and it worked! As for the lighting, i just dimmed my studio lights and closed the curtains to make it look darker and eerier. We also used a handheld magnetic light used to project some extra lighting needed.

-So now that we have our location set and our lighting checked, we needed to create the bars for our prison cell. We used my dog cage and set in on top of a plain white table to keep it steady and at eye level. If we filmed it a certain way it captured our character Avery as if we was "behind bars". We also added a little extra touch with a bed. Yet we didn't exactly have a bed so we used a gray bench with 2 big cushions which were held by gym strings and a white mattress on top to make it look like a bed. For our following scenes, we did't have much problem finding where wee would do them, instead it was simple, for our interrogation scene we used a plain white table recycled from the prison scene and two bar stools that worked like chair. For the officers office scene, we just used my dad's personal office and redecorated it a bit. For special effect we adde the same table and the dog bars to add as if Avery was watching from her cell.

BUDGET-

-To create these scenes, my group and I needed to come together to plan our expenses in what we would need to make these scenes come to life. For our equipment, I already owned a camera and tripod as well as some lighting equipment to give us more access to film instead of just using our phones. Yet for some of our Mise-en-scene and props, Jade and I combined our financed together to order the hospital gown, and the 2 backdrops as well as the props for our officer costume. Together it rounded up to about $100.00. Carolina also bought thee walkie talkies that worked for one of the officers props. As we created our scenes, we managed to stay within budget and think outside the box to give life to our set.

Company Logo

PROCESS-

- So how did my group and I come up with our company logo? Well we first wanted to create a logo that represents us but we still didn't know how to make it seem that way. Now to make a logo, we first have to come up with a name and then comes the design as. it is crucial to incorporate within our film opening. The logos should also help captivate the audience's attention to come watch our film. So we came up with a funny little idea for our name, which was a happy accident in a way.

NAME-

- For our name search we first decided to look for some inspiration from other film production companies that could spark an idea for our own. Even though we came across many fun names like "shutter films" or "ghost whisper productions", these name didn't really call out to us as they never fully felt like "us" or even "right." After a few other minutes of continuing our search, I had a thought about our own names: Jade, Emma, and Carolina. I told them that what if we combines our names to make something for our logo name. It would feel more like "us" because of our names are being part of the logo. After a few minutes trying to decode a name out of all of our names combines, Carolina suggested; what if we combine the first letter of our names? And so we did, in the result we came up with J.E.C productions! Now it was time to actually design our logo, since we now have a name we have to think of graphics and styles and fonts that we want to incorporate within our production logo.

CREATION/DESIGN-

- Now that we have our name: J.E.C productions, it is time to create our design and express our creativity within our logo. While creating the logo we started using the website Canva, and it was slightly challenging as we had to look through many new fonts. Many of the fonts looked cool as we tried them so we decided to use all of them and eliminate one by one until we decided on which one we liked best and which one would work more for our vision logo. We finally ended up choosing the Blanka font which was something quite spunky and new. We had never used this font before but we immediately liked it. Now that we have the font we had to decide on the color scheme and which design elements we would be utilizing within our logo. I had an idea since we had already used yellow in our poster, i thought wee could use purple for the letters J.E.C. Since purple and yellow are complementary colors (they sit opposite of each other on the color wheel) I thought it might be a nice touch. During the editing process of the colors we had some trouble deciding if we should use yellow for the word production or if we should just leave it plain black as it wasn't necessarily appealing to the eye. So we decided to leave it black. We knew we wanted too incorporate film in some way so Jade had the idea of having a film roll but that didn't work out too well, but we later found a cool camera design. We quickly included it in the creation of our logo, fitting perfectly with it. After finding the colors, design and the name, all we had left was to add some animation and finish up cleaning a few details. Since we had the camera pointing directly to the words J.E.C, i thought what if there was a small light that reflected from the camera to the words making it look like the camera is projecting the words. Jade spent a few minutes trying to ind the perfect animation that would bring our logo to life. In the end we finally had our animation and company logo perfected and done!

Titles and Fonts!

 TITLE'S-

- Titles hold an important place within our film, as they are the first introduction to any sort of film or even TV show. A title is also used to captivate the audience firsthand, when looking at a poster of a film, it helps the audience associate and connect with the film as they watch it. Titles utilize a large range of fonts that can make any title stick out towards a specific target audience. That is my teams goal, we want to incorporate within our production a font that connects with our chosen title: Static. Yet not just our title holds the fonts but also the credit sequence, as we want to incorporate a glitchy looking font, to make it appear more eery to go along with our film.

FONTS-

- Fonts help establish the atmosphere that will be passed throughout the film. Not just the tone but the genre, emotion and storytelling as well. Using different colors and layouts also help with the context of the theme placed within the specific font in the title or credits. Colors create the identity in which we want our title to be held in (the status/ or genre/ or even mood). It helps create immediate recognition about the setting of the tone for the film. Colors are  strategic use of colors to evoke specific psychological reactions from the audience themselves.

PLANNING-

- When it comes to this topic of titles and fonts, my group and I haven't decided what exact font we want to be using within our credits for our opening project. Yet, we have looked at other examples from past thriller and mystery productions to help us gain some inspiration with the process. Jade has designed some mock up designs using Canva to design our production company logo, as well as trying to find the perfect font that fits for our film. One of my main inspirations is the film Se7en, as the glitchy, staticky credits are in line with what we want to incorporate with our own credits.

VIDEOS-

- These videos really helped explain the true meaning of why it is important to include these factors with our title and fonts within our film production.

Audio

 SOUND-

-What makes audio so important within films? Sound is about 50% of the audiences experience as it helped drive emotional impact as well as building a more clear view of character or narrative relationships. For example, dialogue, sound effects or even music help build up the atmosphere and immerse the audience more. For our project my group and i wanted to include the appropriate sound needed to create our storyline, as well as giving it meaning and help it come to life. Sound helps give the eeriness and the emotional connection viewers have towards the film.

PLANS-

-Sound also includes Diegetic and non-diegetic sound, which both are crucial for the understanding of audio within films. For ur film project it is also important we incorporate at least one of these factors with our film. While having a personal meet up with my group, we talked about the types of soundtracks we could use to enhance our film with the audio sphere. We plan to use foley sounds that include, heavy breathing, screaming, writing on the wall, and even the clanking of objects within various scenes.

-It is highly possible that some of the sounds during our recording becomes lost or unable to be heard very well, being over-layered with other sounds that make it difficult to understand, which is why foley comes in handy. Being able to recreate these sounds gives us the freedom to experiment and see what sounds work best for our foley. As for our non-diegetic sounds, we are going to be using some static noise of a television or the static of a light when a room is fully quiet. Even the air conditioner is part of the play.

-We plan to use this sound within our jail prison scenes where it is usually pretty quiet with no dialogue. Most of our resources for this will be used with PixaBay since it offers only non copyrighted sound. As well as ArtistRoyalty, which helps us with non-copyright music that we can add to the film. Not just music and non-diegetic sounds will be used but also dialogue, within some scenes we will have our script while we record the dialogue for the lines of the actors. We mark where the actor says their lines during the recording of their dialogues. This helps the editor as having the script align with the movements of the actors mouth as well as the dialogue truly helps during the editing process. As for our diegetic sound includes the heavy breathing, footsteps, or even the chalk marker while being written on the wall.

Part two Mise-en-scene

COSTUME DESIGN-

- For our costume design, we decided to go with the organization of how we split up the scenes to have a better visual for our characters costume design, just like we did for our set. Within the 3 different scenes, we split up the 3 sections to see what type of costume design we would use.

-For our first section, the prison-cell based scene, we wanted Avery to be with a hospital gown, yet we wanted it to be rusty and not too clean, to make it seem as if she had been trapped there for a while. The costume is a very long, white with small patterns on the design of the hospital gown, she will also be wearing white socks. Since the hospital gown came in clean with no rustiness or dirtiness, Jade, Carolina and i went outside to my backyard to find some dirt and we blended it into the gown, yet we didn't add too much to it, so it wouldn't look super dirty.

-For our next scene we decided we wanted out actor to be in normal teenager clothes, which include jeans, and a simple long sleeve shirt with shoes. Our scene was the interrogation room. As Avery is held in a seat with her handcuffs on, my dad: Ricardo Gonzalez, is also in his current costume acting as Officer Garcia. He will be wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt that goes up his collar to have a formal sense since he is a sheriff. He will have on his props which include his belt with his gun (toy) and his notepad for notes during the interrogation. He will also have on black shielding glasses.

-Lastly, our last scene is where Officer Garcia will be talking on the phone. He will have the same clothes on, yet he will have a sweater over the chair and his phone will be his prop at the moment. Since Avery is still currently trapped in the cell, she will be in her hospital gown costume during this scene.

MAKEUP -

-Makeup is a crucial factor within our film, especially when Avery is being held captive during her prison-cell scenes. We wanted her to seem very tired and sleep deprived, as if she had been stuck and trapped there for a long time. To do this, we had my mom help us with the makeup design, since she is really good at it. We gave her a look to signify "eye bags" and "tiredness." We also wet her hair, to make it look greasy and as if she's in a frenzy. We wanted the look to give as if she has been unkept for a long time. To help us with this look, we searched up some help in Pinterest to get some inspiration, and finally we came over the perfect foto for our reference.

LIGHTING-

- Lighting is also highly important within our film, since we want too give out an ominous eery feeling during the first scenes, we though that we should use dim lighting to represent the mood and atmosphere together. Many mystery films include low key lighting to create a more darker contrast than other films. It gives them that stability of keeping the audience on edge. We chose to se these techniques within our film, using a light-bar to add more of a filler light for when our character needs to be highlighted and also to space out other characters.

Part One Mise-en-scene

 SET DESIGN-

- For our set design we wanted decided that it would be easier if we split up the scenes so we can have a clear visual of what the set could be for each scene. We split our scenes into 3 sections. The first section is the prison-cell like scene, where Avery is kept inside a cell for the cell we wanted to give a eery feeling towards the audience, so we ordered 2 backdrops that look like old rusty walls from an inside of a cell. Jade also drew a reference to how we wanted the cell to look like.

MAKING THE CELL COME TO LIFE-

-The cell was drawn first by Jade as a reference to how we actually wanted the cell to come to life.  It offered a wider scope to connect with the audience as well as introducing the protagonist: Avery Dawson, as she is held in a smaller and very crammed space. We used the studio at my house to recreate the drawing, using one of the recommendations from our first group meeting, we used 3 backdrops instead of 2 so we could have a more bigger and open space for the audiences perspective. The 3 walls helped us shoot shots from different angles, an helped with the mobility of the shots as well. As well as the backdrops we used my dog's gate as a cell gate and a bench with 2 cushions with a white sheet on top of it to make a "bed".

-Our second set up was our interrogation room. It was made in the same space as the cell, we just tied the backdrops up with pins and set up a long desk and 2 metal chairs to resemble a meeting ish type of room. We chose to set it up very minimalistic  and plain. We chose to make the desk horizontal to give both the characters, Officer Garcia, which is the sheriff taking the notes of the interrogation process, and Avery Dawson herself, a long distance type of feel within the scene. (This scene takes place during one of Avery's flashbacks)

-Lastly, our final section is where Officer Garcia is taking a call while Avery is locked in her cell. The scene is set inside my Dad's office inside of my house, where the room held the very essence of a workspace. The furniture and personal additions such as family photos, books and cases to be solved, so it correlated to the story as well.  We wanted to show more about who Garcia is within the film and the law enforcement as well choosing certain props that helped with the building of the set.

PROPS-

Props are essential within our film since we use props to help enhance our story as well as create the every essence that connects with the audience and the character itself. For example, Officer Garcia is a Sheriff, so the props we decided to use for hm are a gun (plastic gun, not real), a harness where he can hold a walkie talkie on his belt as well as a rope and handcuffs where he can handle any criminals or for any officer business. For Avery, her only props are the murder pen used to kill her friend, Raven. She also has a hospital robe, but that is more of a costume addition more than a prop. For Officer Garcia's car we also have a red and blue police siren as a prop.

Character Development

Development-

-Developing a character is important as it transforms an imaginary image into a more relatable, memorable and complex person or individual. It gives the audience someone to connect with throughout the story. The investment that comes with clear backstories and motivations, drive the character into the story's outcome as well as personal growth within the character.

-While coming up with. our character Aver Dawson, my group and I had to create many factors about our character that aided her within the story of our film. First was choosing her name of course.

NAMING OF AVERY DAWSON-

-Choosing a name for our character was essential. As we wanted her name to not be too common but also not too unknown. We wanted her name to represent her as a character as well as personality. My partner Jade and I searched throughout many websites of girl names that could maybe call out to us. We went through many parent searches as well. Which mostly included names such as, Amanda, Riley, Abby and so on. From the start i knew our character's name should start with an A, from the moment we came up with the character, just her essence made the first letter of her name an A.

-After searching for another while, we came across a website full with names that start with the letter A. That's when we came across the name Avery. From the moment we saw it, it just felt right, the name itself is interpreted as meaning "wise". Being associated with wisdom and nature, the name fitted right with our character as her nature is in turmoil, yet she fights through trying to provide wisdom and clues to the Police officers. Avery's last name: Dawson, was the same process yet it hold no meaning as it just fits the character itself.

- The same process was used for her best friends name. Yet for her name there was a twist that we wanted to add. We wanted her friends name to mean something if written backwards. Kind of like a palindromic name yet when spelled backwards it spells something different. While searching, we came across the name Raven, which spelled backwards is Nevar. Jade had the idea that this would fit perfectly as our character is meant to write something on the wall of the cell she is trapped in, yet we could never figure out what Avery would write. But Jade came up with the idea that "Nevar" sounds like the word "Never." Since we want our character to look unstable and crazy in some way, so having Avery write repeatedly the word Nevar on the wall will give that specific look that my group and I want to project towards the audience.

CREATING AVERY-

-
While starting the storyboard, my group and I decided that we should add a backstory towards our character to give here more depth. Avery is a seventeen-year old girl who is more of a reserved girl.

-Currently she is a senior in high school with one best friend name Raven. Our main goal is to have our character be the "typical quiet girl" who is not much of a social person with a super extroverted life, instead she is the complete opposite.

Media Theory

Media theory time!

-Media theory is highly important to incorporate into our film. Yet the question is, which one will we decide to reflect and use upon our project? What is the importance of the specific media theory we choose and how does it work together to represent our film?

-Various different media theories are used to represent how media is interpreted and shown in the world today. As these theories help develop a deeper understanding of a specified film or any type of media platforms. Some examples can include: Production companies, marketing, films, and various other social media platforms. Media theories are essential as they contribute to our understanding of how media is not only being displayed on screen but the thought of what happens behind the production and the true meaning (showing the theme or the purpose) developed through various research within media.

Chosen Theory-

- Choosing a theory is important to see how we are going to visualize the deep meaning into our film. So the theory I have chosen is the Gender Performativity Theory by Judith Butler. This theory explains that gender roles are not natural concepts in which they are built within our society yet the roles within media are frequently understood. Our film opening consists of our main protagonist being a female character, this theory helps reflect on the aspect of being a woman in a mental state. As our character is held in a prison cell she is seen as if she is "crazy" or in a non ordinary mental state.

-Today in our society, most people think of a mentally unstable or ill woman as stress induced or dramatic persona. Either motherhood or marriage leading to these conclusions. Yet this assumption is wrongly put, as there are various other reasons that can lead to the woman's demise or "fallen attitude". The fact that people immediately go to blame the woman for their own actions are incorrectly placed. Our protagonist: Avery Dawson, is held in a prison cell where she is accused of murder. Yet wrongfully so, people just assumed she was held accountable, when in reality only because being a woman can lead to a misguided viewpoint and representation.

-The stereotypical viewpoint of specific genders seen throughout the elements of media is notably focused on this viewpoint. We want our audience to understand the reason for Avery being trapped isn't because of her actions but the fact that she is held accountable makes her trapped both physically and mentally. Not given a voice to speak of reason can lead to this event. Even thought he film will provide understanding to the character, it will not reveal much of the "why" prospect. This gives the audience the creativity to analyze and imagine within their own viewpoint of Avery's demise and how it came to be.

-Our overall goal is to clearly give the audience the freedom of their own viewpoint yet also displaying the factor of society's own assumption of what ones gender roles must convey. With this topic being a constant debate within our society sphere, Butler's theory is the start to a new understanding of the portraying of societal roles according to people gender's not only in media but in every day lives as well.

StoryBoard and Script

 Storyboarding-

-The next stop to our project is helping visualize how we are going to even begin to film it. Helping with angles, shots and composition, storyboards help organize the ideas and have a specific purpose to the story. It also helps if we have to change any factor that comes within our film, like the angle or how the lighting should be or if any certain props should be used for the occasion that is happening when a shot s taking place.
